Three Grasso sisters helm their family farm, founded in 1870 by their great-great-grandfather Giuseppe. They are in Treiso, just south of the town of Barbaresco. All of their vines are situated within the Barbaresco zone, with the majority planted to nebbiolo, of which they produce several cru bottlings. They also produce a small amount of riesling and this dolcetto. The vineyards are managed without any chemical pesticides or fertilizers. Across the range, the wines are made with a very light hand: native yeast, large neutral Slavonian oak barrels, no filtration, and only a minimum amount of sulfur added at bottling. Tragically, the demand for dolcetto is on the decline, despite its ability to deliver a real sense of Piemontese terroir. Try this with a frittata, vegetable risotto, or stuffed cabbage.
